2 Corinthians 4:8-9
We are troubled on every side,
yet not distressed;
we are perplexed,
but not in despair;
Persecuted, but not forsaken;
cast down, but not destroyed.
We are troubled on every side,
yet not distressed;
we are perplexed,
but not in despair;
Persecuted, but not forsaken;
cast down, but not destroyed.
Every time I read this scripture, it warms my heart. It let's us know that no matter where we are, or what we are going through, God is right by our side; and, because God is by our sides, we will win. We know that because we are in the world, trouble is all around us. Every day we live, we are never free from trouble or the people who bring trouble into our lives. But, don't misunderstand, trouble is not only contributed by external factors. For some of us, the trouble is because of internal factors in our life.
I believe it is okay to be troubled but, don't allow the trouble to be you. This scripture is letting us know we all have some level of problems, distress, anxiety or conflict in our lives. But, that does not mean we have to let these issues have us. In other words, we do not have to act as though we have no hope for Psalm 31:24 lets us know, "Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord."
We don't have to act as though we don't see a way of escape. Why? Because the Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 10:13 tells us, "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."
There are times when we simply don't know what to do. We are completely baffled. We don't know what way to turn, what course to steer, or how our needs will be supplied. But God's word lets us know in Philippians 4:19, "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
Finally, we sometimes find ourselves frustrated with our efforts and plans. We are sometimes thrown to the ground by those who are our adversaries. We are however, safe in the hands of Jesus the Christ. We are kept by His power, as is noted in 1 Peter 1:5, "Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time."
So, the next time you feel troubled, perplexed, persecuted or cast down. Just look up towards heaven and say, "Fix It Jesus!"
