As a Christian, we have the right to remain silent. In my language, I say, "don't give them a reaction." The enemy will try you in every area of your life; but, when he discovers you are not going to react to his antics, (James 4:7, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.") he has no choice but to leave you alone.
You must be strong in your faith and confident in your identity as a child of God to be able to stand this one. I know this from first hand experience. As I sat across the table from two people who were intentional about the things they were saying and the decision they had made, I heard the Holy Spirit tell me, "don't give them a reaction." Keep smiling, I am with you.
This was one of the most amazing experiences with God I had ever had. Why? Because He had already revealed to me what their plan was. His main concern was if I was going to be obedient to Him. I must admit with my natural self, I wanted to come across the table and slap both of them (stop judging and keep reading). But thanks be to God His spirit took control and I remained silent. Matthew 10:20 tells us,"For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you." With this being said, all you have to do is take God at His word.
After I did not respond the way I think they thought I would, they both became visibly irritated with me. The body shifted in the chair and the infamous neck roll took place; and I was told to report immediately. My response was a simple sarcastic, as my sister would say, petty ok. I gave a very cordial thank you and proceeded as instructed.
Let me just say here, I know God was in this because there was a time I would have never walked away so peacefully. I would have said what I wanted to say without any thought or consideration, rolled my neck and walked away. But today, I thank God for positive change. Joshua 1:9 is my constant source of strength, " Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."
When you begin to trust God and the Holy Spirit to speak on your behalf, everything else begin to sound like the teacher on Charlie Brown. Wonk, Wonk, Wonk! With this being said, be encouraged my sister. Believe me, this transformation does not happen over night. But, it can and will happen. Just remember, you have the right to remain silent. You don't have to attend every argument you are invited to. In other words, you can:
Decline! Decline! Decline!
It's your right.
