At some point in our lives, we have all played in the game of deception. You know, pretending to be something we are not or perhaps pretending not to be something we really are. Either way it is an untruth and an untruth is a lie. So today, I want to encourage you to stop pretending.
It is ok to be who you are. One of the most important steps to healthy mental health is to acknowledge there are somethings that are not quite right about us. Do we know what they are? Sometimes. Can we change what they are? Maybe. Can we live a happy, healthy, whole life if we don't acknowledge we have some brokenness? Absolutely not.
So what people don't understand you. The real reason is they don't understand themselves. Contrary to how we dress it up, make it look, or make it smell; we are all one broken piece away from falling apart. Think about it this way. You are wearing one of your favorite sweaters. It has one little string hanging. You keep watching it because you don't want it to ravel. You don't want anyone to know you, your life, nor your sweater is perfect. On the other hand, you know if you don't correct it you risk your whole sweater falling apart. How embarrassing will that be?
What does all of this mean? It simply means we know the issue is there. It is annoying us to no end. However, because of fear we don't do anything. We just keep carrying on like it doesn't exist. You know, pretending its not there; until eventually what was a simple string hanging is now a gaping hole.
This is exactly how we handle the issues of life. Pretend they're not there, they'll go away. Pretend they're not there and no one will ever know. Let me tell you honey, the people around you are the first ones to notice the hanging string on your sweater. Sometimes they'll tell you; other times they'll tell others. But believe me when I tell you its really not that serious.
So you have a string hanging ok. Just snip it off and keep moving. So the string becomes a hole. Ok, patch it up and keep moving. Whatever you do, be true to you. Don't let a string and don't let a hole keep you from being who you are. The real beauty comes wing the string becomes a hole and the hole exposes what we tried to hide. Because it is then and only then God can heal what we didn't want to reveal.
